Big Island Police Investigating Attempted Robery in Kailua-Kona

Big Island police are investigating an attempted robbery which occurred on Wednesday night (July 4) in Kailua-Kona.

Shortly before midnight, a man described as a Caucasian male entered the Lako Street Chevron armed with a handgun and demanded money from the 46-year-old male cashier working behind the counter. The cashier refused the demand for money and the suspect fled from the area.

The suspect was described as being in his late teens to early 20’s, between 150 and 160 pounds, and as having a fair complexion.

Detectives are investigating a reported shooting that occurred in Puna on Tuesday. (July 3, 2012)

Shortly after 5:30 p.m., a 39-year-old Mountain View woman reported to police that at about 3:30 p.m., she was at the suspect's residence on Overview Road in Mountain View to retrieve her property. She said that she and the suspect were involved in a verbal confrontation. The victim reported to police that as she was leaving, she heard what sounded like a gunshot.

Hawaii police officers have responded to several reports in residential areas of large parties with fifty or more juveniles drinking alcohol within the last week. In Waikoloa a 17-year-old male juvenile and a 19-year-old male were arrested after acting disorderly, challenging police offcers to a fight, and refusing to leave the area. Both were found in possession of alcoholic beverages.

Police are reminding the public about the laws relating to promoting intoxicating liquor to a person under the age of twenty-one. Hawaii law chapter 712-1250.5 prohibits a person from permitting persons under the age of twenty-one to possess intoxicating liquor while on property under their control.

Big Island Police Arrested 20 Motorists for Drunk Driving

The following information is provided by Hawaii Police Department:

During the week of June 25, 2012, through July 1, 2012, Big Island police arrested 20 motorists for drunk driving. Three of the drivers were involved in traffic crashes. One was under the age of 21.

So far this year, there have been 698 DUI arrests compared with 720 during the same period last year, a decrease of 3.1 percent.

There have been 727 major accidents so far this year compared with 682 during the same period last year, an increase of 6.6 percent.

So far this year, there were 14 traffic fatalities on the Big Island compared with 11 during the same period last year, an increase of 27.3 percent.

To date, 11 fatalities were related to drugs (6), alcohol (3), or a combination of both (2).

DUI roadblocks and patrols will continue island wide.

Hilo Police Report 15-year-old Missing Girl on Monday

Police are asking for the public's assistance in locating a 15-year-old Hilo girl reported missing on Monday (July 2, 2012).

Hannah Haus is described as caucasian, about 5' tall, weighing about 140 pounds and average build. She now has partially shaved black hair with long bangs. Haus is known to wear prescription glasses with dark trim. She was last seen at her residence on Kaiwiki Road in Hilo on July 1, 2012 at about 9:00 p.m.

Haus has a medical condition that requires medication.

Police searching for 2 women wanted in shoplifting case

The following information is provided by the Hawaii Police Department:

Police are asking for the public’s assistance in the identification of two females wanted for questioning in a theft investigation. The two females pictured were caught on video on May 12, 2012.

Hilo Armed Robbery involving a Firearm

The following information is provided by Hawaii Police Department:

Big Island police are investigating a report of a robbery in Hilo that involved a firearm.

On Wednesday morning (June 27) shortly after 6 a.m., police responded to a convenience store in the upper Kaumana Drive area, where a 41-year-old Hilo man reported that while on his morning walk at about 4:30 a.m., he was approached by two male suspects standing near a car at the intersection of Kaumana Drive and the Puainakō Avenue extension. While one of the suspects asked the victim a question, the other suspect reportedly struck him on the head from behind.

After regaining consciousness, the victim reportedly saw one of the suspects brandishing a firearm.
